About the Umoja Database

The Umoja Database is a multi-union Management Information System (MIS) to modernize and connect operations across Tanzania’s sector unions. “Umoja” is Swahili for togetherness — a shared platform for shared strength.

Scope & Modules

Phase 1 connects two unions:

Core modules: secure member records, communications, grievance & case tracking, collective bargaining agreements, projects, workshops & trainings, and a digital library — all in one auditable system.

Why “Umoja” (Togetherness)?

“Umoja” stands for unity and collaboration. The database promotes interoperability between unions, reduces duplicated work, and enables shared analytics and reporting — so each union gains from collective progress.
